Black Power!
Have you ever wondered where the phrase "black power" came from? We all have said it at least once in our life time. Since its Black History Month I thought this would be the perfect time to figure it out.
Stokely Carmichael was born in June 1941. He was a Trinidadian American who was a black activist in the 1960 Civil Rights Movement. Carmichael resided in Harlem. He coined the phrase "black power" when he became apart of the Black Panthers. He was also apart of the Black Nationalist movement. Carmichael later removed himself from the Black Panthers because he believed that white activist should be allowed to help the cause while the Panthers thought differently. So the next time you say "black power" know it's not a term to put down whites but that it is a term to uplift the greatness of black people!

Langston Hughes
(1902-1967)
Since this month is the start of Black History month and it's the birthday of Langston Hughes, i decided to post about him! I thought it was only right because he was a writer and columnist! Here is my favorite poem of his. Everyone should follow their dreams right?

"The Godmother"
I'm no gangster nor do i agree with the doings of the Mob but, i do find the story of Griselda Blanco to be pretty cool and interesting. This first woman to start the huge drug trade in Miami and she's also the first person to be indicted on drug charges in US history! She is definitely worth googling! This is where my Blog name comes from! Lynn being what my family call me, Blanco being the last name of the BIGGEST woman drug lord in history.....Lynn Blanco...so different from my life but the same in many ways. We both want to be the BEST!
